Satellite of Love: Randy Polumbo

Until December 19,
Polumbo recontextualizes objects, ideas and technologies, disorienting yet deeply nourishing us upon entrance to his playful and provocative world. In Satellite of Love, the artist presents fresh works that take his approach to new heights in terms of elementally charged materials, provocative forms and rich symbolism. Tiny abstract flower videos pollinate walls and surfaces, and cast illuminated glass nipples sprout like mushrooms. Cast lead crystal Hermes Birkin bags are filled with blown glass simulations after mass market sex toys, which in turn are illuminated by tiny solar panels. Questions of beauty, libidinal economies, and propagation are spun from the contrast between our public faces and private appetites. Polumbo’s techno-organic garden crystallizes an altered perspective or, perhaps, illuminates a soulful path to our coordinates in the present.
