Teatro Vivo/Live Theater: A Festival

A theatre festival, sponsored by the new Creative Writing in Spanish Program at NYU, consisting of five readings of plays in Spanish written by award-winning women writers, and staged by emergent Latino directors. Both writers and directors currently live in New York City. The authors and the directors will be available for a dialogue with the public after each reading: they will explore the need of a text (the human voice contained in it) that resists vanishing in contemporary theater and talk about the relation of power within women, a subject present in most pieces.

• Sunday, November 2: Un lugar donde caerse muerta by Lina Meruane (Chile). Directed by Martin Balmaceda (Chile).
• Monday, November 3: Fuga Mundi by Maria del Mar Gomez (Spain). Directed by Jorge Merced (Puerto Rico).
• Wednesday, November 5: La jaula bajo el trapo by Maria Negroni (Argentina). Directed by Maria Litvan (Spain).
• Friday, November 6: Tres asedios al Guaton Loyola by Diamela Eltit (Chile). Directed by Diana Chery (Colombia).
• Thursday, November 7: Mi version de los hechos by Carmen Boullosa (Mexico). Directed by German Baruffi (Argentina).

Co-sponsored by NYU Humanities Initiative, NYU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), Sylvia Molloy - NYU Albert Schweitzer Professor of the Humanities, and NYU Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
